Mobile Sketch: Canvas and Toolbar Overview

Learn the Mobile Sketch workspace, canvas controls, drawing tools, saved canvases, grid settings, and manual sync.

Use this guide to get oriented before creating or editing a sketch on a tablet. It explains the controls across the top and bottom of the canvas and how each tool fits into the sketch workflow.

Before you begin

• Open the correct assignment in AIVRE Mobile Sketch and confirm the property address shown in the top bar.
• Make sure the tablet has a stable connection before relying on manual sync.
• Decide whether the sketch will stay on one canvas or be organized across multiple canvases.

Workflow

1. Review the top bar

The property address identifies the active assignment. Use Back and Forward as undo and redo controls. The X clears the canvas, while Sync manually sends the current sketch to the web application.

2. Choose a canvas interaction tool

Use Draw to create geometry, Select to choose a shape or individual line, Lasso to select multiple items, Cut to split a shape, and Copy to duplicate a shape.

3. Organize the sketch with canvases

The canvas list is an organizational tool. Keep the full sketch on one canvas or use the plus button to add canvases when separate work areas make the assignment easier to manage.

4. Configure the drawing grid

Turn the grid on or off to match your preference. Grid spacing can be set to 1 foot or 2 feet, and the angle lock can be changed from 15 degrees to free-floating.

5. Sync before leaving the assignment

Use manual sync after meaningful edits and verify that the web application reflects the current sketch before closing the mobile workflow.

Field notes

• Clearing the canvas is a destructive action. Confirm that the active canvas is the one you intend to clear.
• Additional canvases do not change calculations by themselves; they are primarily for organization.
• Use angle lock for clean orthogonal or repeatable angled geometry, and use free-floating mode only when the field measurements require it.

Final review

Before leaving the assignment, confirm that the geometry matches the field measurements, every closed area has the correct definition, labels and features are readable, and the calculations reflect the intended report treatment. Use manual sync and verify the updated sketch in the web application.
